Glover Teixeira has shared more details about Raoni Barcelos’ concerning defeat to Raul Rosas Jr.
Former UFC champion Glover Teixeira revealed that Raoni Barcelos suffered brain swelling following his bantamweight bout against Raul Rosas Jr. at UFC Vegas 121 on September 26. Barcelos was leading on the scorecards before suddenly losing consciousness during a wrestling exchange in the final round, resulting in a technical knockout loss and an immediate trip to a Level 1 trauma center.
Speaking on the Overdogs Brasil podcast, Teixeira explained that doctors conducted neurological testing because the sudden collapse was not a conventional knockout. Teixeira stated that tests revealed brain swelling and a traumatic brain injury, speculating that the blackout served as the body's defense mechanism to shut down an exhausted fighter.
