BKFC’s pound-for-pound number one, Lorenzo Hunt, believes Mike Perry will not return to the promotion. Hunt stated Perry is actively avoiding a high-stakes fight after being called out directly and showing no interest in the potential bout.
Hunt, a multiple-weight world champion, has long targeted a fight with Perry, who became one of combat sports’ most recognizable names after leaving the UFC. While Hunt prepares for a title fight against Walter Pugliesi in Italy on July 18, he has become convinced the Perry matchup will never happen. The champion recounted a direct confrontation where he challenged Perry, only to be met with silence. “He didn’t have nothing to say, he wants no smoke with me and everybody who is truly in combat sports understands what it means when a man curves,” Hunt said. “He is not going to fight me no matter what David Feldman says.”
Hunt now believes Perry has earned his money and reputation and has no intention of returning to the difficult world of bare-knuckle boxing, especially with a fight against him looming. “Honestly, I don’t even think he’ll come back. I think he has a valid excuse to disappear, and I think that’s just what he’s going to do,” Hunt explained. “Eventually I’ll be the triple world champ and I’ll be the ‘King of Violence’ and we’ll just forget about Mike Perry.”
With Perry remaining unresponsive, Hunt is officially moving on. He feels he has done everything possible to make the fight and is now focused on his own career, stating Perry is no longer a priority. “He’s not even welcome in BKFC any more, I’m good. I don’t even want to talk about Mike Perry any more,” Hunt declared. “I called him out after two fights, after a title fight and a world class showing where I dominated his long-time bully David Mundell, right?”
Hunt concluded that forcing the issue further would be pointless against an unwilling opponent. “He hasn’t said a word, so come on guys. You can’t make him fight. Now you’re trying to turn me into a bully. If you make me fight a guy that doesn’t want to fight what is that? That’s a bully, right? I’m no bully, you have got to be game. If he don’t want to fight me, f— him!”
