Joey Logano was still fighting for 12th at Kansas when the championship suddenly got a lot more expensive. There were three laps left.

Joey Logano addressed the massive swings created by NASCAR's 10-race cumulative Chase format following a costly tire failure at Kansas. When asked by Bob Pockrass how teams failed to foresee the huge point swings possible through wins and stage points, Logano quipped, "Maybe we're not as smart as we think." A late tire failure dropped Logano to 20th place with just 25 points, while Kyle Larson swept both stages, won the race, and set the fastest lap to earn a maximum 76 points.
The resulting 51-point shift left Logano in fourth place, 67 points behind Larson with six races remaining. EssentiallySports highlights that because the format does not feature round-by-round eliminations or resets, points gained or lost remain permanent on each driver's ledger, magnifying the consequences of single-race swings across the postseason.
