Porzingis has been battling POTS dating back to the end of his tenure in Boston in 2024.

Former Boston Celtics center and current Golden State Warriors player Kristaps Porzingis announced on Friday that he is stepping away from basketball to prioritize his health. The 2024 NBA champion stated that his body did not respond as expected during ramp-up activities, leading him to make the decision to step away. Porzingis confirmed he intends to work with the Warriors on next steps.
Porzingis has battled postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) for more than two years, an illness that began during his Celtics tenure and persisted through stints with the Atlanta Hawks and Warriors. Following the announcement, Warriors teammate Draymond Green drew attention for candidly stating that the team has moved on with its active roster and cannot worry about "spoiled milk."
