The assumption around the NBA has been fairly easy to understand. The Celtics acquired Paul George in the Jaylen Brown trade, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they intend to keep him around.
An NBA executive told Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports that people should not assume the Boston Celtics are desperate to dump forward Paul George. The 36-year-old was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster trade that sent Jaylen Brown the other way. Despite George having roughly $110 million remaining on his contract across the next two seasons, the executive emphasized that his skillset still carries significant value across the league.
While speculation arose that Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens might flip George to manage payroll, the nine-time All-Star expressed enthusiasm about playing in Boston at media day. George stated he wished he had arrived in Boston sooner and has been very happy since joining the team.
