It would’ve been difficult to dream up a better day for the Brooklyn Nets to begin their season. It was the type of autumn afternoon you imagine when you’re longing for October in the wet heat of July and August.…

The Brooklyn Nets dropped their season opener to the Charlotte Hornets in a 110-103 defeat. Despite debuting a new home court and uniforms, Brooklyn struggled defensively and gave up a 20-8 differential in second-chance points. Julius Randle led the Nets with 33 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in his team debut, while Michael Porter Jr. added 26 points.
Charlotte capitalized on interior scoring and dominant offensive rebounding throughout the game, with Brandon Miller scoring 17 first-half points. Rookie Mikel Brown Jr. scored six points in his NBA debut for Brooklyn, but the Nets could not overcome defensive lapses down the stretch under head coach Jordi Fernández.
