The Chicago Bulls have the assets to trade for Karl-Anthony Towns. It's what happens next that could be a problem.

Writer Andrew Hanlon argues that while trading for Karl-Anthony Towns makes basketball sense for the Chicago Bulls, offering him a massive extension would be financially unwise during a rebuild. The New York Knicks and Towns are reportedly far apart on contract extension negotiations, with New York tabling discussions after offering a four-year, $200 million deal.
Towns is eligible for a four-year, $276 million contract and holds a $61 million player option for next season. Hanlon notes Towns would fit well alongside Matas Buzelis and Caleb Wilson, but claims Chicago cannot justify committing over $200 million long term.
