The Story in 60 Seconds

Former NBA player Ed Davis has signaled his intent to change his plea to guilty in a federal sports betting case, according to a court docket entry filed Friday. Davis had previously pleaded not guilty to four federal charges, which include wire fraud conspiracy and bribery in sporting contests. The presiding judge has directed a federal magistrate to schedule Davis's formal plea change hearing.

Davis is one of six defendants accused of participating in a scheme targeting at least four games during the 2023-24 NBA season. Prosecutors allege co-defendant Malik Beasley accepted bribes to deliberately underperform while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks to offset debts owed to Davis. Beasley agreed to a guilty plea last week, leaving Davis's former agent Paolo Zamorano as the only defendant yet to plead guilty.
