During Houston Rockets training camp ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, teammate Reed Sheppard reported positive progress regarding Amen Thompson's shooting development. Sheppard stated to reporters that Thompson's jump shot looked smoother and noted that he had gained weight during summer workouts. The update followed Thompson agreeing to a five-year, $208 million contract extension with Houston.
Thompson averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game last season while converting 53.4% of his field-goal attempts. However, he struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 21.6% from three-point range. Houston opened training camp on September 23 as they look to integrate Thompson alongside Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun.
