Contract extension talks were becoming a distraction around the team, so the Knicks postponed them.

The New York Knicks announced that they are pausing all contract extension negotiations until later in the season. The decision impacts four eligible players: Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, Miles McBride, and Tyler Kolek. The organization stated that the team is entirely focused on preparing for the upcoming season to avoid ongoing contract distractions before raising their championship banner.
Towns is eligible for a four-year, $276 million extension, but the Knicks reportedly offered four years and $200 million. Kurt Helin notes that long-term luxury tax constraints will make retaining the core challenging.
