Cristiano Ronaldo retired from the Portugal national team after 23 years. He will continue playing for Saudi club Al-Nassr and is 15 shy of 1,000 career goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo announced his retirement from international soccer on Thursday, ending his 23-year career with the Portugal national team. The 41-year-old forward confirmed his decision in a video statement, stepping down as the all-time men's international record holder with 146 goals in 234 appearances. Ronaldo stated he plans to continue his club career with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr as he pursues 1,000 career goals.
The announcement follows recent friction with new Portugal manager Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo served a 30-day suspension after walking out of camp on Oct. 1 when he was benched for a Nations League match against Norway. Jesus confirmed Ronaldo's departure was entirely the player's choice after discussions ahead of the upcoming squad selection.
