The Los Angeles Lakers will be down one more veteran going into this season. Head coach JJ Redick spoke with media members following Tuesday’s training camp practice to address a notable departure on his bench.
Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick addressed the media to confirm the retirement of longtime assistant coach Bob Beyer after a 40-plus-year coaching career. Beyer concludes a two-season stint on Redick's coaching staff, having previously coached Redick during his playing days in Orlando and New Orleans. Redick noted that the 64-year-old informed him of the decision in mid-August.
Beyer's retirement prompted several internal staff promotions ahead of training camp. Assistant coach Greg St. Jean has been elevated to a front-of-bench role to replace Beyer, while Michael Wexler was promoted to assistant coach and Zach Guthrie joined from the G League affiliate as an assistant coach and head of player development.
