Deandre Ayton shared his blunt reaction to being traded by the Los Angeles Lakers to the Washington Wizards, stating during media day, "I ain't gon' lie, I'm excited." Ayton exercised his player option for the 2026-27 season before being dealt in July after averaging 12.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in his single season in Los Angeles.
In exchange for Ayton, the Lakers received Hardy and two second-round picks. Now with Washington, the 28-year-old center stated he is prepared to start or come off the bench under head coach Brian Keefe while playing alongside Trae Young and Anthony Davis.
