Lakers Great Great Update Regarding Nikola Jokic Pipe Dream

Joey Haverford reports that the Los Angeles Lakers' pursuit of Nikola Jokic may have an opening following reporting by The Athletic's John Hollinger. Hollinger reported that the Denver Nuggets feel paranoia regarding Jokic's upcoming unrestricted free agency if he foregoes his player option. Although Jokic has publicly maintained that he wants to sign a five-year, $360 million extension with Denver, roster shortcomings could lead him to consider outside options.

Haverford argues that a pursuit remains difficult because Jokic prefers Denver's quieter market over cities like Los Angeles. However, the writer notes that if Denver struggles to contend in the Western Conference, potential sign-and-trade scenarios could emerge. Haverford suggests such a deal could see the Lakers trade assets like Austin Reaves and Walker Kessler, while rival teams like the Golden State Warriors would also show interest.
