Jordan Hawkins could find a better role after Grizzlies' move.

The Memphis Grizzlies and guard Jordan Hawkins have mutually agreed to part ways via waivers, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Once he clears the waiver wire, the former lottery pick will become an unrestricted free agent. The move allows Hawkins an opportunity to seek a fresh start and regular playing time with a new franchise before the regular season begins.
The decision comes only three weeks after Memphis acquired Hawkins from the New Orleans Pelicans in a multiplayer trade. Memphis needed to cut its roster from 18 standard contracts down to 15. The Grizzlies will remain responsible for Hawkins' $7.02 million salary for the season if he is not claimed off waivers.
