The Pacers have waived veteran forward James Johnson and big men Keba Keita and Rienk Mast, the team announced Saturday, leaving their expected opening-night roster in place.
The Indiana Pacers have waived veteran forward James Johnson alongside big men Keba Keita and Rienk Mast. The roster moves leave Indiana with 14 players on standard contracts and three on two-way deals heading into opening night. Waiving Johnson was deemed a financial necessity due to the franchise lacking sufficient room below its first-apron hard cap.
While Johnson's camp deal lacked Exhibit 10 language, keeping him from the G League, a return later this season remains possible. Meanwhile, Keita and Mast signed Exhibit 10 contracts and are expected to join the Noblesville Boom, Indiana's G League affiliate, where each can earn a $91,000 bonus.
