NBA tells sportsbooks to prohibit certain bets, restrict parlays
Key Things to Know
  • The NBA has barred sportsbooks from offering same-player under parlays and other problematic bet types this season.
  • Prohibited markets include opening tip winners, specific missed shots, and under bets on limited-minute players.
  • The restrictions follow federal betting cases involving Jontay Porter and Terry Rozier.
The Story in 60 Seconds

The NBA has instructed partner sportsbooks to prohibit specific wager types this season, including player prop parlays featuring multiple under bets on the same athlete. The league also directed operators like DraftKings and FanDuel to eliminate bets on the opening tip winner, players missing specific shots, and under props on players projected for fewer than 12 minutes.

League executive vice president Scott Kaufman-Ross noted the decision was influenced by recent federal cases involving Jontay Porter and Terry Rozier. In addition, the NBA is introducing new integrity measures, including training led by former FBI agent Charles Tillman and protections against bettor harassment.
