Dejounte Murray made a statement in the Pelicans' season opener that it's still his time, and that Jeremiah Fears isn't ready to take his starting mantle.

Writer Chris Lambert offers an apology to Dejounte Murray following the New Orleans Pelicans' 123-120 opening-night defeat to the Indiana Pacers. Having previously questioned Murray's starting role and advocated for Jeremiah Fears, Lambert writes that Murray proved him wrong by acting as the team's primary standout during the contest.
Murray recorded 23 points, seven assists, three rebounds, three blocks, and two steals across 34 minutes of action. Lambert praises the veteran guard's defensive leadership, efficient shooting, and composure, concluding that Murray firmly demonstrated his value as the team's primary starting point guard.
