Jamahl Mosley’s media day comments all but confirmed Herb Jones’ starting role

Pelican Debrief's Chris Lambert argues that comments from new New Orleans Pelicans head coach Jamahl Mosley strongly indicate Herb Jones will start in the 2026-27 season. Mosley stated during Media Day that Jones needs to serve as the "head of the snake" defensively by guarding opposing teams' best players. Lambert believes this leadership role requires Jones to be in the starting lineup rather than coming off the bench.

Lambert suggests that Mosley's defensive system could help Jones bounce back into contention for an All-Defensive team or Defensive Player of the Year. However, the writer notes that Jones' offensive production and three-point shooting will be critical factors in sustaining his role on the court.
