A video of the Saints legend’s bedtime care reveals an intimate part of life with ALS
Former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason shared a video detailing his nightly care routine while living with ALS. The footage shows his eyelids being taped shut for sleep because he can no longer close them independently. Diagnosed in 2011, Gleason relies on his eyes and assistive eye-tracking technology to communicate, write, and stay connected with others.
Protecting his vision remains essential for his daily life, including his writing projects and his foundation, Team Gleason, which supports ALS patients. Alongside his wife Michel and their children, Rivers and Gray, Gleason recently appeared at the Superdome to celebrate the anniversary of his iconic 2006 blocked punt.
