Contract extension discussions between the New York Knicks and Karl-Anthony Towns have stalled, according to reports from ESPN. An agreement appears unlikely before training camp begins next week, as Towns is eligible for a maximum extension of up to four years and $273 million.

While the Knicks want to keep the center long-term and discussed starting salaries between $45 million and $50 million, team owner James Dolan aims to avoid the second tax apron. The Knicks are also considering salary cap flexibility, Towns' past injury history, and the fact that he turns 31 in November.
