The Warriors have been mentioned as a possible suitor for Karl-Anthony Towns this summer. That will change if they trade Kristaps Porzingis' expiring deal.

Dan Favale of Daily Knicks argues that the New York Knicks could gain major leverage in contract discussions with Karl-Anthony Towns if the Golden State Warriors trade Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis is reportedly dealing with lingering health issues from postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and may walk away from basketball. The Warriors are exploring trades involving his contract, which currently carries only a $3 million guarantee for next season.
According to Favale, any realistic trade moving Porzingis would require Golden State to absorb multi-year salary, significantly reducing their projected $50 million in upcoming cap space. The writer asserts that eliminating the Warriors as a deep-pocketed free-agent suitor effectively removes a major outside threat, strengthening New York's position in securing Towns to a new deal.
