New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani skipped the Knicks’ championship ring ceremony at Madison Square Garden because ticket prices were simply too expensive.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani decided not to attend the New York Knicks' championship ring ceremony at Madison Square Garden due to high ticket costs. Speaking in an interview with NBC New York ahead of the season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers, Mamdani cited the steep prices, stating he did not have $2,000 ready for a ticket.
Ticket prices surged leading up to the October 20 matchup, with minimum resale listings nearing $2,000 and average asking prices on SeatGeek approaching $4,000. Although Mamdani attended the championship parade earlier in the summer, he opted out of the opening-night festivities celebrating the franchise's 2026 NBA title.
