Key Things to Know
  • The Orlando Magic have waived Malaki Branham, JD Davison, and Kevin Knox from their roster.
  • All three players were on Exhibit 10 contracts and may join the G League's Osceola Magic.
  • Retaining any player would have reduced Orlando's second tax apron cushion from $2.5 million to roughly $47,000.
The Story in 60 Seconds

The Orlando Magic have officially waived Malaki Branham, JD Davison, and Kevin Knox. Each player had been signed to an Exhibit 10 contract and appeared in limited action across the team's four preseason games. All three can earn a bonus of up to $91,000 if they spend at least 60 days with Orlando's G League affiliate, the Osceola Magic.

Financial considerations played a major role in the decisions, as keeping another standard contract would have cut Orlando's $2.5 million cushion beneath the second luxury tax apron to approximately $47,000. As a result, the Magic are expected to enter the regular season with an open roster spot while the waived trio may continue playing in Osceola.
