The Story in 60 Seconds

The Portland Trail Blazers officially waived forward Jeremy Sochan on Saturday to preserve roster and financial flexibility ahead of the 2026–27 season. The move leaves the 23-year-old former lottery pick without a team just four months after winning an NBA Championship with the New York Knicks. If he clears waivers on Monday afternoon, Sochan will officially become an unrestricted free agent.

Sochan joined Portland on August 1 on a one-year, non-guaranteed training-camp contract worth roughly $2.6 million. Despite shooting 62.5% from the field across four preseason exhibition games, general manager Joe Cronin opted not to guarantee his deal, leaving Portland's standard roster at 14 players to maintain luxury tax and trade flexibility.
