The Sacramento Kings announced on Sunday that they have waived former first-round pick Elfrid Payton alongside Viktor Lakhin and Tristen Newton. Payton, who was selected 10th overall in the 2014 NBA draft, had recently signed an Exhibit 9 contract with Sacramento prior to his release.
Following the three cuts, the Kings' roster stands at 17 players heading into the 2026-27 season opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on October 21. Unlike Lakhin and Newton, who can earn bonuses with the G League's Stockton Kings, Payton's future remains unclear.
