The Sacramento Kings’ Media Day took an unexpected turn after a private conversation between reporters was picked up by a live microphone. The clip quickly spread online, and people began discussing the reporters’ identities.
NBC Sports Bay Area journalist Tristi Rodriguez has publicly denied being one of the voices caught in a viral hot-mic incident during Sacramento Kings Media Day. Rodriguez stated on X that her name and reputation were unfairly tarnished after she was wrongly accused online, addressing horrific messages and online abuse she received following the leak.
The controversy began on September 28, 2026, when an active livestream microphone picked up media members discussing the appearances and personalities of Kings players Ben Simmons and Zach LaVine. Although Rodriguez attended the event as a working reporter, she clarified she was not involved in the conversation and expressed her desire to refocus on the upcoming NBA season.
