The Utah Jazz wanted Kristaps Porzingis back in 2023, but the Boston Celtics beat them to the punch. In retrospect, it worked out for them. Not that anyone should run any victory laps.

Writer Matt John argues that the Utah Jazz avoided a major financial and roster mistake by missing out on Kristaps Porzingis in 2023. Utah had reportedly targeted Porzingis in free agency before the Boston Celtics acquired him via trade. Given Porzingis's ongoing health struggles and chronic illness diagnosis, the article suggests the Jazz benefited from not committing significant years and money to the big man.
While Porzingis later won a title in Boston, the report notes that Golden State is examining its options amid his health concerns. John suggests that if Porzingis is released and chooses to continue playing, Utah could theoretically consider him as a low-cost, part-time rim protector.
