Anthony Davis’ plan for his future should force the Wizards into a trade

Washington Wizards forward Anthony Davis announced during Media Day that he does not plan to sign a contract extension during the season. The ten-time All-Star stated he intends to focus on playing at a high level and will address his future in conversations with the front office once the campaign concludes.

Davis holds a $62.7 million player option for the 2027-28 season, which he could decline to reach unrestricted free agency. Washington previously acquired Davis by sending two first-round draft picks and three second-rounders in a trade, alongside a separate deal for Trae Young, prior to Davis making his debut for the franchise.
