Washington Wizards forward Anthony Davis is unlikely to receive a maximum contract extension from the franchise, according to a report from The Athletic. Davis is entering the final guaranteed year of his contract and holds a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season. If he declines the option, he could theoretically be eligible for a four-year extension worth up to $275 million.
However, the report indicates Washington is extremely hesitant to offer a maximum deal due to Davis's age, injury history, and the restrictive roster-building apron rules. The Wizards are prioritizing medium-term salary flexibility while several core players remain on rookie contracts, leaving serious negotiations on hold until after the 2026-27 season.
