The Washington Wizards dropped below .500 on the season following a 121-111 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Washington initially built a 10-point halftime lead behind a 42-point opening quarter and early dominance in the paint. However, the Cavaliers turned the momentum in the second half, outscoring the Wizards 34-16 inside after trailing by 38 paint points at the break.
Wizards rookie AJ Dybantsa made his NBA debut after returning from an ankle injury, scoring 19 points in 27 minutes. Writer Kevin Broom noted that veteran leaders Trae Young and Anthony Davis struggled to steady Washington as Cleveland's experienced roster took control down the stretch.
