Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson named Tyson Bagent as the backup quarterback behind starter Caleb Williams ahead of their game against the Atlanta Falcons. The decision was confirmed ninety minutes before kickoff when the team designated veteran Case Keenum as the emergency third quarterback. Williams returned to the starting lineup for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Bagent had struggled in his previous outing against the Green Bay Packers, prompting Johnson to avoid naming a clear backup throughout the week. The team also activated tackle Ozzy Trapilo following his recovery from a January patellar tendon injury, while cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, running back Kyle Monangai, and linebackers T.J. Edwards and Keyshaun Elliott were among those ruled out.
