On the heels of an embarrassing fourth-quarter collapse to fall to 3-5, Cowboys' executive vice president Stephen Jones still thinks the team is close to contention.

The Landry Hat writer Jerry Trotta heavily criticized Dallas Cowboys chief operating officer Stephen Jones for telling 105.3 The Fan that the team thinks it is "close" to righting the ship. Trotta argues the remark is completely detached from reality following the Cowboys' collapse against the Arizona Cardinals, dropping Dallas to a 3-5 record on the season.
Trotta highlighted the team's blown 14-point fourth-quarter lead against Arizona, who scored 30 points after trailing 17-3 to finish with 33 points. The writer also condemned head coach Brian Schottenheimer's conservative play-calling, defensive coordinator Christian Parker's struggles, and front office dysfunction as clear proof the team is far from contending.
