“It Was a Soda”: Colts Star Speaks Out in Defense of Matt Goncalves After NFL Fine for Beer-Related Celebration

Indianapolis Colts right guard Matt Goncalves was fined $8,847 by the NFL for a touchdown celebration during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. After tight end Tyler Warren scored in the first quarter, Goncalves mimed opening and chugging a can before spiking the ball. The league cited him for unsportsmanlike conduct, stating the imitation of chugging a beer was an offensive demonstration in poor taste.

Colts tight end Mo Alie-Cox defended Goncalves on social media, jokingly claiming the mimed drink was a soda. The fine highlights stricter league enforcement on celebrations, as San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk was also fined $14,926 for a similar routine that same week.
