The Story in 60 Seconds

Wyandotte County leaders have approved a revised ordinance setting the local sales taxes to repay STAR bonds for a new Kansas City Chiefs stadium. The decision, passed Thursday night, establishes tax revenue boundaries strictly for the proposed stadium and surrounding entertainment district in Kansas City, Kansas, while also establishing the base year revenue for local sales and use taxes.

The 30-year pledge incorporates the Unified Government's uncommitted 1% sales and use tax, roughly 93% of the county share, and up to 8% in transient guest taxes. It explicitly excludes the 0.25% emergency medical services sales tax, the 0.375% public safety tax, and any revenues previously committed to other projects.
