49ers should brace for Xavier Smith experience Rams fans know all too well

Ramblin' Fan writer John Sbisa cautions San Francisco 49ers fans about the inconsistent play of return specialist Xavier Smith, whom the team signed to their practice squad on Wednesday. The 49ers added Smith to address their struggling punt return unit, which has recorded just 25 yards across six returns this season.

While Sbisa acknowledges Smith provides a potential upgrade on special teams with a career 9.4-yard punt return average, he argues that the former Los Angeles Rams specialist frequently offsets positive plays with frustrating mistakes.
