Lovie Smith in heated altercation with parents after high school football mutiny

Former NFL head coach Lovie Smith was recorded in a heated confrontation with parents of Mesa Desert Ridge High School football players on Friday. The incident followed a dispute involving his son, head coach Miles Smith, who dismissed starting quarterback Gunner Brewer for alleged disrespect. When twelve teammates subsequently walked out of a meeting in protest, the coaching staff suspended them from the squad.

Conflict erupted on Friday when the suspended players arrived to help set up pregame equipment and support their peers, but coaches barred them from assisting. Equipment was reportedly thrown in the locker room prior to the altercation with parents. Mesa Desert Ridge athletic director Kevin Swann noted that the suspended athletes will be allowed to return for winter workouts and the following season.
