Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been named the backup quarterback behind Michael Penix Jr. with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons have named Michael Penix Jr. as their starting quarterback for Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers. Tua Tagovailoa, who previously dealt with an oblique injury, will serve as the backup quarterback after Atlanta endured two losses under Cooper Rush.
Tagovailoa had anticipated starting Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers before his injury led the Falcons to pivot. Penix is returning from an ACL injury, and a strong showing could keep Tagovailoa relegated to a backup role moving forward.
