The New England Patriots are evaluating multiple internal candidates to replace starting right guard Michael Onwenu following his Week 2 ankle injury. Onwenu is not expected to return until at least late in the season, prompting head coach Mike Vrabel to test different options in practice. Left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker is slated to remain on the left side rather than switch positions.
Veteran Greg Van Roten, who replaced Onwenu during New England's victory over the Steelers, is among the top contenders for the starting role alongside right tackle Morgan Moses. The Patriots are also considering Ben Brown, Walter Rouse, and potentially rookie first-round tackle Caleb Lomu to fill the vacancy.
