Ravens’ offensive struggles expose a troubling Derrick Henry dilemma

The Baltimore Ravens suffered a 24-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, drawing attention to their offensive decision-making. With the score tied 17-17, Baltimore opted for a downfield pass by quarterback Lamar Jackson on third-and-1 rather than handing the ball to running back Derrick Henry. The incomplete pass forced a punt, allowing New Orleans to go on and score the game-winning touchdown.

Henry had recorded 51 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries in the first half, but received only five carries for 17 yards after halftime. Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle explained that the team anticipated single-high coverage to attack downfield, but the execution failed. Baltimore was also hindered by injuries, with Zay Flowers out with a hamstring issue and Ronnie Stanley leaving with a toe injury.
