NFL Backup Quarterback Rankings: Which Teams Have The Most Reliable QB2s?

FOX Sports evaluated and ranked NFL backup quarterbacks, assessing which teams can withstand injuries to their starters. The analysis highlights early-season quarterback changes across six teams, contrasting the Atlanta Falcons' struggles under Cooper Rush with the Chicago Bears' steady performance with Case Keenum stepping in. The writer argues that effective play-calling often determines how well backup quarterbacks perform when thrust into starting roles.

The rankings categorize various tiers of signal-callers based on reliability, arm strength, and scheme fit. FOX Sports views options like Mac Jones in San Francisco and Joe Flacco in Cincinnati as dependable replacements, while noting that volatile backups such as Carson Wentz and Jameis Winston present higher risks due to frequent turnover tendencies.
