The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense ranks among the NFL’s least productive units through five games, and first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion said Tuesday that increasing designed runs for quarterback Jalen Hurts is not a simple solution to the problems.
Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion addressed quarterback Jalen Hurts' role in the ground game, explaining that increasing designed runs is not a simple fix for the struggling offense. Through five games, the Eagles rank 31st in total offense and have lost three consecutive games, most recently falling 19-17 to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
Mannion noted that utilizing Hurts' rushing ability depends heavily on opposing defensive schemes rather than a fixed strategy. The Eagles' offensive struggles have been compounded by injuries to key contributors, including running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith, as the team prepares to face the Carolina Panthers next.
