One of the Washington Commanders' NFC East rivals "had talks about" trading for defensive tackle Daron Payne before his season-ending injury.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the New York Giants discussed trading for Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne ahead of the trade deadline. However, any potential deal was called off after Payne broke his foot during practice and was subsequently placed on injured reserve.
The Commanders face defensive line depth issues of their own following season-ending knee surgery for defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw. James Dudko suggests Washington could pursue trade options like Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Roy Lopez or Seattle Seahawks veteran Jarran Reed.
