The Boston Bruins have built their strong start to the season around an NHL-best third-period scoring output. Through their first 16 games, the Bruins averaged a league-leading 1.50 goals per game in the final frame. Boston scored 24 goals while allowing only 13 in the third period, representing 42.1 percent of the team's total scoring.
Writer Todd Matthews notes that this third-period efficacy makes Boston dangerous even when trailing late in games. The Bruins hold a 2-3-0 record when trailing after two periods and boast a league-best 4-1-0 mark when allowing the opening goal. Matthews argues this improved late-game execution makes Boston legitimate comeback contenders compared to last season.
