"That stuff doesn't matter. When we win — you heard the building tonight — it was one of the best feelings in the world."

Boston Bruins rookie forward James Hagens is ignoring individual accolades as he builds an early case for the Calder Memorial Trophy. The 20-year-old scored his sixth goal of the season in Boston's 3-2 shootout win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday. Through 16 games, Hagens leads all NHL rookies with 12 points, scoring six goals and six assists while helping Boston to an 11-4-1 start.
Playing alongside Casey Mittelstadt and Elias Lindholm, Hagens has helped outscore opponents 7-2 during 113 minutes of five-on-five action. Bruins head coach Marco Sturm praised the 2025 seventh-overall pick for exceeding expectations despite averaging just 13:26 of ice time per game. Hagens emphasized postgame that team victories matter far more to him than leading rookie scoring charts.
