The Story in 60 Seconds

The Buffalo Sabres are struggling with man-advantage opportunities, opening the 2026-27 NHL season 0-for-8 on the power play. This sluggish start follows an extended 39-opportunity drought spanning the end of the previous regular season and playoffs. Head coach Lindy Ruff emphasized the importance of staying consistent and maintaining belief in the system as the team searches for answers.

In response to the struggles, Buffalo adjusted its personnel during Monday's practice. Noah Ostlund replaced Josh Doan on the primary power-play unit alongside Jack Quinn, Zach Benson, Tage Thompson, and Rasmus Dahlin. Doan was moved to the second unit with Ryan McLeod, Konsta Helenius, Josh Norris, and Owen Power.
