The Calgary Flames and Detroit Red Wings have held internal discussions regarding potentially signing unrestricted free agent winger Patrik Laine for the remainder of the season, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun. While neither team has reached out to him directly yet, both clubs are evaluating options to bolster their early-season offensive output.
Laine is currently skating in Florida alongside fellow free agents Vladimir Tarasenko and Alexander Nikishin while remaining selective about his next destination. Having played only five games last season, Laine is eligible for a performance-incentive contract with a league-minimum base salary.
