Rittich, Pelletier among half-dozen former Flames on waivers Sunday

Several former Calgary Flames players were placed on the NHL waiver wire on Sunday afternoon ahead of Monday's season-opening roster deadline. Goaltender David Rittich was waived by the New Jersey Devils after they claimed Remi Poirier, while forward Jakob Pelletier was waived by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Other former Flames placed on waivers across the league included John Beecher, Cole Schwindt, Juuso Valimaki, Laurent Brossoit, and Alex Petrovic.

Beecher and Schwindt were placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers, and Valimaki was waived by the Carolina Hurricanes. The Vegas Golden Knights also waived forward Alexander Holtz among the total of 71 players placed on waivers around the NHL on Sunday. Calgary is expected to finalize its season-opening roster on Monday before opening the 2026-27 season against the Seattle Kraken on October 1.
