Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal will miss 1-2 months with a torn calf muscle, coach Rod Brind’Amour confirmed Tuesday.

Carolina Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal is expected to miss one to two months after suffering a torn calf muscle. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour confirmed the long-term injury on Tuesday following the team's pregame skate, describing the issue as a freak occurrence that took place prior to Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Staal previously missed Sunday's victory over Philadelphia due to what was initially designated as a lower-body injury. With the veteran center and reigning Conn Smythe winner sidelined, Carolina will rely on its center depth and a next-man-up approach to cover his defensive and leadership roles.
