Carrier's first goal of the season late in the third period helps the Canes bounce back for a division win despite an otherwise tough overall performance.

The Carolina Hurricanes bounced back from a previous road defeat to earn a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Long Island. Logan Stankoven and Jesperi Kotkaniemi built an early 2-0 lead for Carolina before Mitchell Chaffee and Brayden Schenn tied the game in the second period. Andrei Svechnikov briefly restored the lead, but Victor Eklund leveled the score 3-3 heading into the final frame.
William Carrier broke the tie late in the third period by scoring his first goal of the season off a rebound, and Jalen Chatfield secured the win with an empty-net goal. Goaltender Brandon Bussi made key saves in his first start in two weeks to earn the victory against Islanders netminder Semyon Varlamov, while forward Taylor Hall returned from an upper-body injury.
